Outstanding College Tennis Players
Posted in: Sports by George on June 18, 2010
While there is a great fascination with professional tennis, some of the most interesting and dynamic matches come at the college level. This is the point where players are really beginning to demonstrate their personal strengths, which are near professional and sometimes at it levels, and their personalities as players are really coming through. Competition is fierce and rivalries exist among players as well as between various schools and training programs. And the team set ups at this level are exciting to watch and most people pick teams and players from their school or alma matter as favorites. Players like Maria Mosolova, from Northwestern , Bassam Beides from Pepperdine and Ali Beavers from Georgia Southern University Women’s Tennis continue to gain national attention and interest.
Mosolova was named as an ITA All-American in the singles category and she finished the season ranked as number two in the nation. She was one of the four finalists selected for the 2009 Women’s Tennis Honda Sports Award. She is one of the young players who is highly expected to have a quality career and possibly go on to win Wimbledon tennis and other Grand Slam titles.
Bassam Beides is a senior and holds an impressive college record. He has risen from something of an underdog status to his current defeats and upsets. His record in singles is 17 and 10, and for doubles it is 15 and 11. As a junior he won the ITA All American honors in doubles. He won the same title for singles as a sophomore. Ali Beavers is another college favorite and is already demonstrating outstanding strengths that will take her far on the professional circuit. She is currently a junior and is placed second on the team singles record. These players may not be in the Wimbledon 2010 lineup, but you can look for them in the future.
