Mark was about to visit the great state of Texas for the first time in his life. He had recently graduated from law school and wanted to become a state prosecutor. Texas was big and he liked that. And he had indulged in a fantasy to live there from the time he was a child. In addition, his fiancée Tracey grew up in Fort Worth and was interested in moving back. So, Mark was going to visit his soon to be in-laws, interview with a law firm, and look at possible houses to buy, all in one week. And he thought law school itself was stressful. The one thing he felt he had going for him was that he had already met most of Tracey’s family, including her parents and he really liked them and felt like he got along well with everyone.

Still, he felt more comfortable staying in one of the Fort Worth luxury hotels while Tracey would stay at her parent’s house. They were adults and were going to be getting married soon, but still they believed that everyone would be more comfortable if Tracey stayed at her parents instead of the hotel with Mark. And Mark definitely wanted to stay in a hotel because it would be easier for him to prepare for his job interview.

Just as Mark expected it to be, Texas was big. It felt like he had flown across most of the country simply between the time the pilot announced they had entered Texas and when they landed at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. He felt immediately at home, however, and somewhat oddly and had a great time with Tracey’s family. Her parents took the couple to a performance by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra where they were lucky enough to hear an evening of piano works by Schumann and Chopin. The pianist that evening was Horacio Gutierrez.
