The Transformation of Mumbai

The Indian city of Mumbai only recently gained independence.  And since that time in 1947, the city has been transforming and growing into one that is more able to take care of itself, in a much better way than it was taken care of.  Markets are busy, a new fine dining Mumbai restaurant is in every neighborhood, and various other businesses are thriving in an economy that is becoming a viable and reliable means of support for many of the people who were previously living in poverty.  Those people now have the opportunity for employment, night and day.

This is a city that operates twenty-four hours a day, much like the city of New York or Paris.  Day life and night life just blend.  The city has thus become one of the more popular tourist destinations in the country, and as the city becomes busier, the city creates places of interest for visitors to see and to experience.  Of the museums and the attractions, the most popular are the Taraporewala Aquarium, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Nehru Planetarium, and the Prince of Wales Museum.

Of the markets, the “thieves market”, or the Chor Bazaar is a veritable feast for the modern day shop-a-holic.  Here one can find everything from house hold goods to fashionable and funky clothing.  Everything is reasonably priced, and those prices are subjects for negotiation.  Many other districts offer markets such as this, Linkin Road and Fashion Street offer the same variety and are often quite busy on the weekends.  The Crawford Market and the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Market are also must visit markets for those wanting to pick up the art and the treasures of India.

Discos and pubs are also plentiful as well as the smaller more family run business in Juhu or on the beaches of Chowpatty.  There is much to do in the city of Mumbai.  The locals and the tourists are able to find the means for entertainment which suits their tastes and desires.  Nothing is lacking and much is to be discovered when one ventures into this region of the country of India.

Namaste Ibiza

There are many sides to Ibiza, many different cultures that exist here simultaneously, and sometimes in the very same room.  If you go to any dance club at 3 in the morning, you’ll see this very well demonstrated.  An amazing blend of people from all over the world, dancing and moving together in fantastic combinations and eclectic rhythms, and a good number of locals from the island, plus a large contingency of Spanish nationals, and it all makes sense in a strange way.  It’s a heady experience, and might be a distilled version of Ibiza.  There are many different parts of the city and the beaches, and certainly the dance culture is a large part of this, but there is a very vibrant local culture as well, and a rich temporary community of travelers, who come for the luxury offerings of a 5 star hotel.  Ibiza can be an amazing paradise, and none of these worlds has to overlap.

It’s entirely possible, then, to avoid leaving your hotel while you’re here, and still have a pretty magnificent time.  There are a host of amenities, with restaurants, spas, swimming pools, workout rooms, in room entertainments, plus so much more.  But Ibiza really is a fantastic place, and worth seeing more than once in a lifetime.  There are many extraordinary events that occur every night on the island, with amazing music by some of the best DJ’s in the world.  If you like to see a barrage of artists working together to produce amazing works of musical adventure, check out Namaste Ibiza.

This is an event that’s been happening here for ten years, and it’s every Wednesday night, in the garden of Las Dalias in San Carlos.  It’s a project that began with a group of five locals wanting to produce an experience that was full of music and the spirit of unity.  Now it’s grown into something that attracts locals and well as tourists, for intensely fun evenings of dj’s, bands, visual art, digital art, and a feast of artists from all over.  It attracts artist as innovative as Schaltkreis Wasserman, an electronic duo that specialize in psyTrance, electronic, and dance music.  There is a fantastic sense of the extraordinary here, and it’s a very uplifting experience.
